At the SCEC 13th Annual Environment Awards presentation held on 28th November 2008, Lynne Frederiksen, a director of Maleny Credit Union presented the Froggy for Climate Change Mitigation Award to Liza Neil.
Liza won this award for her contribution to ‘Cool Schools and Community Solar Energy’. According to SCEC, “The judges praised the diversity of climate change initiatives which Liza has initiated and implemented. The variety of projects is awe-inspiring and to mention just a few:
Walk to School Bus
School Vege Gardens
Solar Panel Bulk Buy to provide Community Solar Energy
Hands-on approach to educating Students”.
MCU Chief Executive Greg Stevens said that “in addition to what this award stands for, it was even more special to sponsor this award, as Sustainable Maleny, received a Highly Commended Certificate in this category for its Solar Hot Water Drive. The Solar Hot Water Drive was designed to decrease household energy, another win for Maleny community. This award was accepted by Elizabeth Campbell & Barry Earsman”.
